Richard J. "R.J." Vanecko, a nephew of former Mayor Richard M. Daley, pleaded guilty in the death of David Koschman, a 21-year-old from Mt. Prospect. Vanecko was charged for the crime in 2004.

Vanecko and his lawyers gathered behind close doors on Friday afternoon at the Rolling Meadows courthouse to discuss a deal with the judge. Prior to today, he pleaded "not guilty" to the manslaughter charges.

Nanci Koschman, mother of David Koschman, filed a lawsuit in December 2012 asking that a special prosecutor be appointed to review the manner in which police and Cook County prosecutors handled the investigation of her son's death. After the investigation began, a series of irregularities including missing files and conflicting police reports began to emerge.
