A Syrian military jet was shot down by Turkey, confirms Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The Syrian military jet allegedly was in Turkey’s air space.
According to Aljazeera America, Erdogan stated that the Syrian military jet “violated [Turkey’s] airspace” during an election rally Sunday. Turkey’s F-16s hit the jet which crashed near Kasab, a Syrian town near the Turkey border. Syria claims that Turkey shot the jet down while it was attacking rebel forces inside Syrian territory, reported Reuters.
The Syrians have been in the midst of a civil war which has left millions homeless. Refugees have fled to Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey. Tensions though continue to build between Syria and her neighbor and former ally Turkey.
