Fox News (http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/01/31/school-officials-confirm-shooting-at-atlanta-middle-school/), in Atlanta, is reporting that a 14 year-old boy was shot in the back of the neck and is now hospitalized after another student shot him right outside of Price Middle School in Atlanta, Ga. A teacher also was treated on the scene for minor cuts and bruises.
Carlos Campos of the police department says the shooting was not random. Apparently, their was an altercation before the shooting, inbetween classes in the hallway.
CNN reported that an off duty police officer, who is also a school resource officer, disarmed the suspect. The suspect, who is also a student, is now in police custody.
It is unclear rather the student had the gun in the building or had it stashed outside the building. Price Middle has metal detectors.
Violence in school has been a hot debate lately, since the mass shooting at Sandy Elementary. Since then, there has been several school shootings and plenty of debate over gun control laws. Recently, President Obama has initiated new gun control legislation in response to the increase in mass shootings.
Schools have begun to prepare against guns used at school by intruders and students. Also, teachers and administrators are brainstorming and implementing ways to decrease bullying.
