David Slade, whose "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" joined the money-making juggernaut "Twilight" franchise this summer, is going to direct a new "Daredevil" movie for 20th Century Fox. Deadline Hollywood reports that the film will be a continuation of the 2003 film written and directed by Mark Steven Johnson and starring Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, Colin Farrell, Michael Clarke Duncan and future "Iron Man" helmer Jon Favreau.
You almost have to feel bad for Mark Steven Johnson. Everyone seems to feel his Marvel Comics adaptations have to be rebooted by someone else. His "Daredevil" was not a bad movie, although it did feature arguably the worst-written and most technically inaccurate courtroom scene since the invention of flexible film. His 2007 "Ghost Rider" is also getting a sequel/reboot, and again, Johnson will not be involved.
There is no word yet as to whether or not Affleck will again don the red leather tights. Given his rapidly-rising status as a director, I wouldn't bet money on it.
Director David Slade is also said to be attached to "The Last Voyage of the Demeter," a period horror film based on part of Bram Stoker's novel "Dracula." The Demeter is the doomed ship that carried 50 boxes of Transylvanian earth--and Count Dracula--to England.
