BREAKING NEWS!: Beatles, McCartney grab nominations in 53rd Annual Grammy Awards

The Beatles and Paul McCartney were among the nominees for the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards announced in Los Angeles Wednesday night. 

The Beatles stereo box set (Jeff Jones, compilation producer; Paul Hicks, Sean Magee, Guy Massey, Sam Okell & Steve Rooke, mastering engineers) was nominated for Best HIstorical Album. Also nominated: "Alan Lomax in Haiti: Recordings for the Library of Congress, 1936-1937," "Hank Williams: The Complete Mother's Best Recordings ... Plus!", "Buddy Holly: Not Fade Away: The Complete Studio Recordings and More" and the compilation "Where the Action Is: Los Angeles Nuggets 1965-1968."
 
In the category of Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance, Paul McCartney's version of "Helter Skelter" from "Good Evening New York City" was nominated along with "Run Back to Your Side" by Eric Clapton (from "Clapton"), "Crossroads" by John Mayer (from "Battle Studies"), "Silver Rider" by Robert Plant from "Band of Joy" and "Angry World" by Neil Young, from "Le Noise."

A cover of a John Lennon song was also nominated for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals.
 
The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards will be held on Feb. 13, 2011 at Staples Center in Los Angeles and be broadcast on CBS from 8 – 11:30 p.m. (ET/PT).

    So The Beatles are competing against Buddy Holly for a Grammy!! Who'da thunk it!! Is that a first? I think the Fabs would have voted for Buddy to get the award, as they really idolized him.
