Bashir out at MSNBC after disgusting remarks, Palin responds

A report published just over an hour ago on Mediaite.com says MSNBC’s Martin Bashir has quit, just over two weeks after a firestorm of calls for his termination erupted after saying someone should “defecate” in Sarah Palin’s mouth. Bashir apologized for his comments during his next broadcast, but the condemnation of his remarks did not subside. Bashir then went on what was called a “vacation” for two weeks.

There is no news on Bashir’s departure on MSNBC’s website as this article is being produced.
A statement from Bashir, first published by Mediaite, reads as follows:

"After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday. “Upon further reflection, and after meeting with the president of MSNBC, I have tendered my resignation. It is my sincere hope that all of my colleagues, at this special network, will be allowed to focus on the issues that matter without the distraction of myself or my ill-judged comments.

"I deeply regret what was said, will endeavor to work hard at making constructive contributions in the future and will always have a deep appreciation for our viewers -- who are the smartest, most compassionate and discerning of all television audiences."

Palin commented on Bashir's resignation on the FOX News Channel.

"My role is to accept his apology and be humble enough to accept it and move on,' Palin said Thursday on 'FOX & Friends."
