Breaking News: Bachmann’s sinking ship: crew jumps to the other side

By York Van Nixon III

With less than a week to the Iowa Caucuses, the handwriting is on the wall for Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.). Someone is going to win but it will not be Tea Party Caucus member Mrs. Bachmann. Her Iowa campaign manager Ken Sorenson jumped ship for Texas Congressman Ron Paul.

Iowa state senator Sorenson’s leaves in a cloud of controversy. Besides the obvious betrayal of Bachmann, he is being accused by his former boss of taking a bribe to work for her rival.

Rep. Bachmann issued the following statement this evening:

"Kent Sorenson personally told me he was offered a large sum of money to go to work for the Paul campaign," Bachmann said. "Kent campaigned with us earlier this afternoon and went immediately afterward to a Ron Paul event and announced he is changing teams. Kent said to me yesterday that 'everyone sells out in Iowa, why shouldn't I,' then he told me he would stay with our campaign. The Ron Paul campaign has to answer for its actions."

Mr. Sorenson has denied allegations of being bought off by the Ron Paul camp:

"If they want to resort to these type of desperate attacks, that's fine," Sorenson said. "I believe that my character stands for itself."

"There is a clear top tier in the race for the Republican nomination for President, both here in Iowa and nationally. Ron Paul is easily the most conservative of this group," Sorenson said.  "She (Bachmann) is not in the top tier."

Despite visiting all 99 Iowa counties, residents of the Hawkeye State seem to have cooled to native-daughter Bachmann. At least it will be a short bus ride home.
