Claire Davis, the victim of the Arapahoe School shooting on 13 December, has passed away, according to a statement issued by the Littleton Adventist Hospital. Davis passed at 4:29 p.m. (MT) on Saturday, 21 December.
“It is with unspeakable sadness that we write and say that Claire has passed away from the gunshot wound she received at Arapahoe High School on December 13, 2013. Although we have lost our precious daughter, we will always be grateful for the indelible journey she took us on over the last 17 years—we were truly blessed to be Claire’s parents. The grace, laughter and light she brought to this world will not be extinguished by her death; to the contrary, it will only get stronger,” said her family in a statement issued through the hospital late Saturday evening.
Her last update had been on Thursday, at which time she remained in a coma and was in critical condition.
The family’s statement went on to thank the first responders, the school officials, the sheriff’s office, the medical personnel at the Littleton Adventist Hospital, and the community.
A public celebration of Davis’ life will be announced at a future date.
On 13 December Davis had been shot by fellow student 18 year old Karl Pierson during the nation’s most recent school shooting. Pierson died that day due to a self inflicted gun shot wound. While in her eight day coma, Davis' favorite band - One Direction - had made a special video wishing her well. Arapahoe High School has a student population of just over 2,000 students. The incident occurred just one day before the one year anniversary of the Sandy Hook School Shooting in Newton, CT.
