Breaking: Missing Virginia girl turns up alive in San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco news station ABC 7 has reported that a girl who went missing in Virginia about a week ago has ow turned up in San Francisco. The 12-year-old girl, Brittany Mae Smith, has been found uninjured.
A spokeswoman for Roanoke County, Teresa Hamilton has announced that Brittany Mae Smith was abducted by 32-year-old Jeffrey Scott Easley.
Easley is now in custody and has been charged with kidnapping. Brittany's mother was found dead on Monday. Jeffrey Scott Easley, reports ABC 7, was her boyfriend. A warrant was issued for his arrest this week.
Police received reports of Scott and Smith being seen shopping at a Safeway grocery store in San Francisco's Richmond district around 2 p.m. Friday afternoon. San Francisco police officers took the two into custody soon afterward, says San Francisco news station KTVU Channel 2 News.
The San Francisco Safeway employee has told news crews that video surveillance of Easley and Smith as they were outside the store has been turned over to the police to help with their investigation.
No one had been arrested in the homicide investigation related to Tina Smith's death, though authorities had been wanting to talk with Easley. The chief of police said that Easley met Tina Smith, Brittany Mae's mother, online this summer, then moved into the family home in October, reported CNN.
