When I recall those few instances in my teen years when I was less than angelic, I remember my father looking at me point blank and asking, “Ann, is there anything else you need to tell me?” Upon which, I would melt and confess any details I had glazed over in the first confession.
I feel like laying my steely eyes on Maryland School Superintendent Lillian Lowery and asking, “Lillian, is there anything more you need to tell the parents and citizens of Maryland? Is there anything else you’ll be springing on us only at implementation? Are there more radical education reforms you failed to mention during your four statewide forums this month? Lillian, with what other federal grants and federal strings attached have you entangled Maryland without the people’s knowledge?”
Did you see the video of an Oregon Deputy Superintendent talking about P20W (prenatal to workplace with 20 years of schooling)? It went viral and citizens were outraged!
Well.....I spent the evening doing some light reading thanks to a very astute activist friend. It seems the Maryland General Assembly paved the way for some radical education reforms in the 2010 session. HB350 was passed in May 2010 with only one dissenting vote in all of the MDGA, by then delegate and champion of liberty Chuck Jenkins of Frederick County. It requires the MSDE to apply for the Race To The Top Early Learning Challenge Fund grant, which would be used to create a seamless Birth to Grade 12 education reform agenda. BIRTH to Grade 12.
The Race To The Top grant is the same grant that brought us Common Core.
The plans for this agenda are quite far along. Again, with no public discussion. The MSDE Executive Summary from October of 2012 outlines the reform package in detail. Among the reforms is expansion of the Longitudinal Database to include early childhood data. (The same database that Dr. Lowery insists during forums includes nothing new from what they’ve been storing for ten years. “Lillian, is that a glazed over account of the truth? Don’t you think that was a prime moment to mention the planned expansion of the database?”)
Well, the sad reality is that we don’t have to guess any more about what’s to come with Common Core and federal over-reach through grant bribes. It’s in black and white for all to read. In case the original link gets dismantled, here it is in screen captures.
Another of the many devils in the details is funding to train pediatricians on developmental screening of preschoolers. This is the job of the state board of education??
Folks, there’s no more doubt. The time to act is now. We’ve got a runaway state board of education with no oversight, not subject to election, and doing reforms not subject to legislative review. All without citizen input nor consent. And wielding a billion dollar budget. They are selling us out to an even more radical federal Department of Education that wants control of our children from birth to workplace and beyond.
