A committee of Beatle fans working to save Ringo Starr's Madryn Street home from being bulldozed formally contacted Liverpool Wednesday and will meet with a City Council representative on Thursday to try and get an order halting the planning demolition, we've learned.

David Bedford, author of "Liddypool: Birthplace of the Beatles," told us, "We officially handed in objections to the city council planning office today and aim to gain a stay of execution to conduct a feasibility study as to what we can do. I am meeting a Local Councillor tomorrow and we aim to gather momentum over the Beatle weekend in Liverpool this weekend."

The Save Madyn Street Committee launched a website Wednesday at www.savemadrynstreet.co.uk. The group also has a page on Facebook. According to its mission statement on Facebook, the Save Madryn Street (SMS) campaign wants "To preserve Madryn Street for posterity, recognising that number 9 is a precious element of Liverpool's precious Beatles heritage.".

The committee consists of Bedford, Liverpool Beatles guide Phil Coppell, Steve Barnes of the Hard Days Night Shop and Fab Cabs of Liverpool, Liverpool historian Frank Carlyle and journalist Chris Johnson.

The Madryn Street Committee is to be commended for their important work to save Ringo's Madryn Street home. The music of The Beatles has stood the test of time. 45 years on (in the US at least) and they are still among the most influential artists both musically and culturally. In 100 years people will still know the music of The Beatles and will be interested in sites connected with their history such as the Madryn Street house. If there is anything international fans can to do to support your work please let me know:

Frank: I'll be following up this story with another with direct information from the committee. I'll be posting that today.
