After Eric Holder and the Justice Department missed the Feb. 9 deadline to submit subpoenaed documents to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, committee chair Darrell Issa has turned up the heat on Holder in a seven page letter demanding that Justice indicate a specific date the documents will be turned over and designate an official DOJ liaison who will interface with the committee as the investigation moves forward.
The DOJ had requested an open ended extension of the deadline to turn over the documents.
But Issa stated that the committee can wait no longer.
In the letter, Issa requested that the DOJ liaison should also serve as the go-between to handle possible contempt citations the committee may deliver against Justice Department officials for the repeated failure to deliver subpoenaed documents.
According to The Daily Caller, Issa further blasted Holder for suggesting in public that the investigation into the Fast and Furious scandal is politically motivated:
“It is ironic that while the Department’s delay tactics have extended this investigation into a presidential election year, you have had the audacity to characterize it as an attempt at ‘headline-grabbing Washington ‘gotcha’ games and cynical political point scoring,’” Issa wrote to Holder on Tuesday.

Issa concluded his letter by informing Holder that his committee has no intention of backing off of the investigation into Fast and Furious, and that the probe into the scandal will continue until every government official who was involved is brought to justice.
Critics, however, are skeptical of such threats, citing the fact that Issa has had many opportunities to deliver contempt citations against Holder and other Justice officials for their year long practice of stonewalling the investigation into what has become the biggest political scandal in U.S. history.
Some believe that House Speaker John Boehner has interfered with the Issa investigation, pressuring the committee to ease off on the heat on Holder under threats from the FBI and others within the Obama Administration.
