South Texans accustomed to spending their Memorial Day weekend rocking out at Rocklahoma now have a huge reason to do the same in their proverbial backyard.
The inaugural River City Rockfest was announced today, with Guns N' Roses and Alice In Chains highlighting the one-day outdoor festival Sunday, May 26 on the AT&T Center parking lot grounds.
This is huge on several levels:
- It will be Guns N' Roses' first appearance in San Antonio in ages and Alice In Chains' first since the Oct. 22, 2009, Bone Bash, which was inside the AT&T Center.
- Thirteen bands will perform on multiple stages: Also scheduled to appear are Bullet For My Valentine, Skillet, 2013 Grammy winners Halestorm, Asking Alexandria, All That Remains, Clutch, The Sword, Young Guns, O'Brother and San Antonio's The Heroine and Memory of a Melody.
- The fact that the Rockfest is taking place on the same day as the finale to the annual three-day Rocklahoma extravaganza in Pryor, Okla., indicates River City Rockfest organizers Spurs Sports & Entertainment and AEG Live are not messing around in regards to putting San Antonio back on the heavy metal map.
Tickets go on sale Friday, March 22 at 10 a.m. with a presale lasting from 10 a.m. Wednesday (March 20) to 11:59 p.m. Thursday the 21st. Presale password: rockfest.
