In advance of the upcoming second season for HBO's "Girls," series creator Lena Dunham teamed up with record label Fueled by Ramen to release the show's first soundtrack on Tuesday. The 14-track LP is filled with previously released indie pop tunes along with some new numbers by Santigold and rock band fun.
Dunham and the music supervisors of “Girls” curated the set with songs from and inspired by the dramedy series. Music from artists like Robyn, Icona Pop, and Grouplove capture the show's spirit about twenty-something women (and sometimes men) in Brooklyn, New York figuring out what's next in life.
A centerpiece song on the “Girls” soundtrack is “Dancing on My Own,” by Swedish pop singer Robyn. The 2010 electropop tune was featured in one of the show's memorable scenes with characters Hannah Horvath (portrayed by Dunham) and Marnie Michaels (portrayed by Allison Williams) getting down to the track after an 'adventurous' day. The gloomy “Dancing” garnered Robyn a Grammy nomination for best dance track in 2011.

New York-based fun. released a new song on the soundtrack. The upbeat “Sight of the Sun” was originally meant for the band's breakthrough album, “Some Nights,” but didn't make it on due to a clearance issue. With a rewritten chorus, the cheerful pop song is now home on the “Girls” series. The hopefulness in frontman Nate Ruess' vocals highlight the show's making-it-in-the-big-city theme.

Swedish electronica duo Icona Pop's “I Love It,” featuring Charli XCX, is roaring dance song on the soundtrack. It's a “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” for the the daring women characters on the show. “I threw your sh-t into a bag and pushed it down the stairs / I crashed my car into a bridge / I don't care, I love it,” Icona Pop sing with an unapologetic tone during the song's chorus. The 2012 standout release certainly resonates with the show's fun moments.

The lead single from the soundtrack is Santigold's “Girls,” a heavy electronic track with the artist rapping about being the queen bee on the block. There's a definite swagger in her delivery that perfectly encompasses the girls' drive to assert themselves in the New York scene.

An oldie but but goodie also included is Oh Land's perky “White Nights,” which details a dreamy escapade. It's an ideal choice for the city that never sleeps. Indie pop group Grouplove contribute a new track as well titled “Everyone's Gonna Get High,” a tune most likely inspired by the girls (and boys) recreational side activities. The songs on the soundtrack wrap up into one cool compilation.
