Now that Bill Condon has been officially announced as the director of Breaking Dawn, the hiring of the film's casting directors is on the horizon. Summit sent out a press release today with the announcement of signing Bill Condon.
"Bringing Stephenie Meyer's 'Breaking Dawn' to the screen requires a graceful and intelligent hand, and we believe Bill Condon is exactly the right steward, having shown equal and abundant talents of immense creativity and subtle sensitivity," Summit production president Erik Feig said.
Condon, who directed and won an Oscar for his script for 'Gods and Monsters' said in a statement, "I’m very excited to get the chance to bring the climax of this saga to life on-screen. As fans of the series know, this is a one-of-a-kind book and we’re hoping to create an equally unique cinematic experience."
Now in pre-production, the film's details such as filming locations, whether or not it will be released as two separate movies, filmed in 2-D or 3-D, etc., will be decided soon. Melissa Rosenberg has stated that the film will have a PG-13 rating and some recent reports also have Rosenberg stating that the script's latest draft has been made into a single 2-hour movie. However, "Lost in Translation's" Sofia Coppola was also in the running to direct but dropped out since she only wanted to direct 'one of the two Breaking Dawn films'. This fuels rumors that it will indeed be made into two releases.
Speculation aside, one thing for sure is that Breaking Dawn is moving forward with the production.
There will likely be an extensive talent search for the role of Renesmee Cullen, the half-vampire, half-human daughter of Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, just as there was for the roles of Seth and Leah Clearwater in "Eclipse". Many other new roles are also to be cast, as there are a large number of additional characters in Breaking Dawn.
