The news is that that BART police officer was fatally shot while on a probation search. He was inside an apartment in Dublin at the time.

He was fatally shot by a fellow officer.

The officer was immediately transported to a hospital in the vicinity. At that time he was said to be in critical condition. Sadly, that BART police officer later died from his injuries.

"That is such a tragedy," says local San Francisco resident, Katie Adler. "The minute someone mentions BART and police, I immediately think of Johannes Mehserle."

And even worse, says ABC 7 News in San Francisco:

"The person who's apartment law enforcement officials were searching was not there.

The investigation has been taken over by the Dublin Police Department and the suspected shooter is not in custody."

The whole BART organization has been affected by the tragedy and a statement was put out to the public by the BART Police Chief and the General Manager:

"BART has been informed that one of our officers has died from wounds sustained during a shooting earlier today. The entire BART organization is deeply saddened by this tragic event and we ask the public to keep the officer's family in its thoughts and prayers."

CBS Local told press that the suspect "had committed various crimes, including robberies."
