“Breaking Bad” aired “To ‘hajiilee” Sunday night and it was a showdown of wits that turned into a showdown of gunfire. Walt was outwitted by Hank and Jesse, which makes the viewer think he’s not on top of his game. In Hank’s desperation to get some evidence on Walt, Hank goes along with a scheme that Jesse cooks up. While it looked like it worked, Hank and his lone partner didn’t expect Walt to have his own army.
Entertainment Weekly on Sept. 8, points out how the hatred between Jesse and Hank melted away in their shared desperation to get Walt. Hank is so desperate that he put himself, his partner and Jesse in grave danger. The only way to get evidence on Walt is to get their hands on his money.
While they don’t know where it is, they roundup one of Sal’s body guards, Huell, and get him to talk after having Jesse pose for a picture with some hamburger meat, beef fat and blood strewn around his head, looking like his brains were blown out. They tell Huell that Walt’s already killed Jesse and he’s next. Huell spews forward anything he knows out of fear. He tells Hank that he put the money in barrels, gave Walt a shovel and put the money in a van that Walt drove off in. That was the last they saw of the money. They now know Walt buried his blood money, but where?
Hank looks almost genius in this episode with his picture taking ideas. After Jesse's brain's splattered image, he goes for his second photo setup. Hank puts money in a barrel, buries it and takes the top off before snapping a picture and having Jesse send it to Walt. Jesse tells Walt he found his money and he’s burning $10,000 every 15 minutes until he gets there. Walt shoots like a rocket out to the spot where he buried the money and the entire time he's on the cell phone with Jesse. Unbeknownst to Walt at this time, Hank is tracing his journey through the cell phone.
Walt realizes this when he gets to his money spot and all is just as he left it. Walt, Gomez and Jesse show up and just as they cuff Walt and put him in the car, Jack’s crew appears and starts shooting at Hank and Gomez. This is where the episode ends, with Hank and Gomez in a barrage of bullets, Walt on the floor of one car dodging bullets while in hand cuffs and Jesse in another car also keeping his head down.
Fans won’t know until next week, who lives and who dies. One can’t help wonder if Walt does lose all that money because of the flash-forward shown at the opening of the season. This could mean that Hank and Gomez win this gunfight and were able to locate the money. On the other hand, it is time for Hank to go. Walt cannot do much more with Hank around, and so this could be his demise. Jesse might just get another chance with Walt, if this shootout is the end of Hank and Gomez. What do you think?
