But, will this change make their cereals healthy? What is the healthiest cereal out there? What's the best cereal you can buy for your kids?
You won't find it in a box, or on the cereal aisle of any grocery store.
To get a healthy cereal, you have to bypass the sugary cereal aisle and get down to basics. You can find organic whole grains in the bulk food aisle at most health food stores.
Here you can really think out of the box. You'll have to do a little cooking, but, don't panic, you just need to know how to boil water.
Look for short grain brown rice, sweet rice, millet, or quinoa. Pick one, buy a cup or so, take it home and and cook it up.
Cooking times, and water to grain ratios vary, so read the instructions on the bin, or do an online search.
Some people rinse their grains and some people don't, but you need to rinse millet, or you'll be eating more than just millet. Fine sieves for rinsing grains are sold at most health food stores.
Both quinoa and millet can be browned in a dry frying pan before cooking, for a nutty flavor. Stir on low to medium heat until you smell something like peanut butter, and then cook according to directions.
After you cook your cereal, you can doctor it up with all sorts of goodies. Add some sweetener, or apple cider, and rice or soy milk.
Fresh fruit is a great accompaniment, and you can also add coconut, sunflower seeds, and chopped walnuts. Don't be shy about going for delicious. Let the kids make their own special concoction.
Then sit down and enjoy a cereal breakfast better than those served in the finest restaurants. And be sure to save the leftovers for another great breakfast.
