Beer bread is really a misnomer – people who have never had it think it must taste like beer. But those who have tasted beer bread know how delicious it is. Beer contains the yeast which allows the bread to rise. It actually tastes a bit like sour dough bread and it has that delightful artisan texture we all enjoy from European breads.
This is one of the easiest beer bread recipes ever. Put the dry ingredients in a bowl, add a bottle of beer and stir. That’s it!! So many people think you need a mix to make beer bread, but this recipe is nearly as easy and just as good. Using this recipe, you can have just-from-the-oven warm bread often.
Because this bread is so easy to make, you can have warm, homemade bread without the fuss. There is nothing better than the aroma of bread baking – it’s like aroma-therapy!
Don’t worry about the kind of beer to use. Light beer, regular beer, any type – whatever you have on hand will work perfectly!
Easy Beer Bread Recipe
Ingredients for Easy Beer Bread:
- 3 cups flour
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 (12-ounce) bottle beer
- ¼ or ½ cup butter (melted)
Directions for making Easy Beer Bread:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease the insides of a bread pan – set it aside.
Place the flour in a large mixing bowl – stir it for at least 2 minutes with a wire whisk or a fork (this will aerate the flour and will help it absorb the liquid better). Add the baking powder, salt, and sugar – whisk these dry ingredients together with the flour. Add the beer and mix it just until it is incorporated – it’s important not to over mix. Pour the mixture into the prepared bread pan. Pour the melted butter over the mixture. Bake for 1 hour; remove the loaf from pan. Cool on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes before serving.
