Examiner recently caught up with stunningly beautiful Brazilian model Marina Mendes. Here is what she shared with the readers:

How and when did you first get into performing?

I have always loved the entertainment world. I grew up in a small town and all I had was movies and magazines to inspire me. I always knew I wanted to model, act and play music. At the age of 10, I started taking modeling lessons and doing pageants in my city; at 14 years old I joined an all-girl rock band where I played drums. It was only when I moved to Canada that I had the opportunity to study acting. I hope one day I will be able to join all my passions in one project or another.

Who were some of your biggest inspirations in the modeling and fashion world?

Milla Jovovich and, of course Gisele Bundchen. Milla has been an inspiration for me because she seems like such an interesting person, not only an amazing model but also successful actress and musician. And Gisele has earned my respect because not only is she the highest paid model of all time, but she has also opened the door for a lot of Brazilian models in the international world.

What kind of experience have you had?

I have featured in magazines, fashion campaigns and billboards in Brazil. I’ve also had the opportunity to work in an Adidas commercial and work with one of my favorite bands The Fray.

What has been your favorite shoot so far and why?

I would have to say shooting The Fray music video because not only do I love to their music, but I also had the pleasure to work with Candice Accola from The Vampire Diaries, which was amazing.

What kind of fashion shoots do you have coming up?

Currently I am in the process of shooting with an amazing photographer that has been widely published, including in Vogue Italy. I also have a plethora of editorial photographers that request me for their shoots on a regular basis. I also have photo shoots scheduled for later in the year with fashion lines like La Freak and Young and Reckless.

What would be your dream modeling assignment and why?

I would say that my dream modeling assignment would be working with one my favorite designer brands, Versace. I have always been inspired by their clothes, styling and photo shoots and would feel honored to work with the people at Versace. Traveling has also been one of my favorite things to do and I know that Versace does a lot of their shoots on location around the country and around the world. It would be an absolute dream come true!

What are your plans for the future?

I tend to ponder about my future often. In part, because I am a firm believer that thinking positive about your future will help contribute to what I feel will be self-fulfilling prophecy. Having said that, I see an extremely bright future for myself. One filled with success, in all areas of my life, as a result of painstaking effort and hard work. I would like to be able to contribute to the modeling world in a way that will provide me with a stable income and inspire others to strive for the same thing. I’d also say I have been very family oriented because of my very fond memories of growing up as a young girl in Brazil with my wonderful, loving family. Therefore, I do see a family of my own one day in the not too distant future.

What is your advice to other models?

This is such a competitive career and very few make it, so if you are going to get into it, be sure to dive in deep and make sure it’s what you love! Treat it like a doctor would treat his/her career and don’t wait for things to fall in your lap. It’s very easy to procrastinate when you don’t have a set schedule but staying focused and keeping yourself busy is very important. Albert Einstein once said “Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration”. To me, the same can be said about success in the modeling industry. That would be my advice to any newcomers.
