Brazil custody case: David Goldman will get his son, Sean by Thursday at 9 am with no more appeals. The Brazilian relatives of Sean Goldman have announced that they will not file any additional appeals, but will turn Sean over to his father, their attorney told CNN on Wednesday.
The Brazilian Supreme Court decided Tuesday that the custody of David Goldman’s 9-year-old son belongs to David Goldman, and the Brazilian family must turn Sean over to his father by Thursday morning at 9 am.
David Goldman has good reason to be skeptical, and he stated that until he has his son on a plane bound for the US, he won’t breathe a sigh of relief. He has been through this before. In fact, just last week.
Goldman was told last week by a lower court in Brazil that he could pick up his 9-year-old son and bring him back to the United States to New Jersey. Goldman traveled to Brazil last Thursday, but when he arrived was told that a Federal Court overruled the lower court’s decision, and that he couldn’t have his son. The higher court ruled late Tuesday that his son will be returned.
Sean Goldman, the nine-year-old boy went to Rio in 2004 with his mother who illegally took him. Sean’s mother, Bruna Bianchi died last year during childbirth. The mother’s family filed a stay in Rio stating that it wouldn’t be healthy for Sean to be uprooted from his life in Rio, Brazil.
People around the US have been rallying for David to bring Sean back to New Jersey. And once they are on that plane and safely back in the US, those people and David can breathe a sigh of relief.
