The foulest female mouth on television, Kathy Griffin, has been cancelled on Bravo. According to an April 7 report on Hollywood Reporter, her talk show, “Kathy,” which debuted on Bravo last April, won't be returning for a third season.
The new talk show premiered in the 10 p.m. time slot and was later moved to 11:30 p.m. Griffin had previously done six seasons of “My Life on the D-List” before starting this talk show.
Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper have become a New Year’s Eve Tradition on CNN, but this year’s antics were so overtly sexual that many viewers turned the channel. In years past she has done some crude things, such as stripping down to her underwear in public and dropping the F-bomb. She has also made some very offensive jokes about Jesus Christ which have not endeared her to Christian fans.
This New Year’s show was way over the top as Kathy Griffin went through the motions of simulating oral sex on Anderson Cooper. She was accused by angry viewers of actually fondling Cooper who, by the way, is openly gay.
Besides the obvious problem with families tuning in to watch the ball drop together, the whole thing was disgusting and disrespectful on so many levels. She lost a segment of viewers that she will never be able to recoup.
It is unknown whether the above actions caused the cancellation of her show; Bravo is not known for their high moral standards in programming. What may have happened is that her fan base may have dropped to the point that her show is no longer financially viable.
The Hollywood Reporter gives the show’s latest statistics:
A total of 24 episodes aired in all, with the final episode on March 28 averaging 500,000 total viewers.
The number one reality TV program, “Duck Dynasty,” involves a family who prays together at the end of the show. This may indicate that people don’t want to hear humor that blasphemes God and is overtly, disgustingly sexual in nature. The silent majority may have spoken in Kathy Griffin’s case. This writer thinks it’s way too long in coming.
