The Braves saw their six-game winning streak come to a crashing halt yesterday, as the Marlins' Nate Eovaldi threw eight shutout innings in a 7-0 Marlins victory over Atlanta.
It was Eovalid's first win over the Braves in six starts.
Miami cracked this one open early, with single runs in the first and second before a five-run third that knocked out starter Alex Wood. Despite scoreless relief the rest of the way (including 4 2/3 scoreless innings from recent callup Freddy Garcia) the Braves could not make any dent offensively against Eovaldi.
James Mathis had a three-run homer in the third to break it open, and Placido Polanco went 3-for-4. Five Marlins had multi-hit games.
Justin Upton returned to the starting lineup, and went 1-for-4. No Braves player had more than one hit.
The Braves' homestand continues this afternoon by kicking off a three-game series at Turner Field against the Mets.
