Braves' Gosselin selected International League Batter of the Week

The International League office announced on Monday that Gwinnett Braves second baseman Phil Gosselin has been named the Batter of the Week for the week ending July 13. Gosselin joins Ernesto Mejia (WE 4/6 and Joey Terdoslavich (WE 4/27) as G-Braves that have earned an IL weekly award this season.

Gosselin led the league in hitting for the week with a .692 batting average that was the result of 18 hits. The 25-year old finished the week with a .714 on-base percentage and a 1.192 slugging percentage. Of his 18 hits, half were for extra-bases (6 2B, 2 3B, 1 HR) and he also drove in six runs. Gosselin currently leads the International League with 120 hits, 27 doubles, and 172 total bases.

The University of Virginia product is having an outstanding year in his fifth season in the Atlanta system after being selected by the Braves in the 5th round of the 2010 draft. The 25-year old is hitting .345 with 37 extra-base knocks, including five triples and five homeruns, for the season and has scored 56 runs. Gosselin is one of two Gwinnett players selected to take part in the Triple-A All-Star Game.

The Gwinnett Braves are the Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves and play their home games at Coolray Field. Gwinnett plays in the South Division of the International League.
