The forecast for this weekend looks bright...and German.

Live polka and German music will echo across South Bass island for this year’s 20th annual Island Oktoberfest on Put-in-Bay. On Saturday, October 12th, the festivities will begin for the weekend giving families a great chance for an island adventure before old man winter sets in.

Set amidst the beautiful backdrop of a colorful Lake Erie in the fall, visitors can enjoy a spread fit for even the hardiest of Germans. Many of the local restaurants will be showcasing specialties such as spatzel, cabbage rolls, German potato salad, sauerbraten, wiener schnitzel, potato pancakes, apple dumplings and German chocolate cake. And of course, German beer and wine provided by local favorite, Heineman’s Winery.

Hours for the celebration are 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Saturday and noon - 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $4 for adults for a one-day pass and $6 for a 2-day pass. Children 12 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

Travel Tips: Miller Ferry provides passage across Lake Erie to the island in just under 20 minutes. One-way fares are $7 for adults, $1.50 for children, $2 for bicycles and $15 for cars.
