Brantley sidelined for 10 days, Masterson given his second opening day start (Video)

Indians outfielder Michael Brantley will reportedly miss 10 days of Spring Training following getting spiked in the arm during an exhibition game on Monday.

Brantley required stitches following the game, reports MLB.com, and although the Tribe hopes to get their projected left fielder back in soon, coach Terry Francona doesn't want to hurry the process.

"We definitely want this thing to heal and heal properly," Francona said. "There's not a reason to rush these things."

The Indians will replace his spot with a host of Spring Training invitees, particularly to determine the team's 2013 utility outfielder.

Masterson gets opening day nod

RHP Justin Masterson was told on Tuesday that he will be the team's opening day starter against the Toronto Blue Jays on April 2.

Masterson previously started the 2012 opener, also against the Blue Jays, allowing just one run in eight innings in an eventual extra-inning loss to Toronto.
