Country star Brantley Gilbert ended up celebrating more than just his 28th birthday on January 20. The “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do” singer got on bended knee to propose to girlfriend Jana Kramer, and was greeted with an enthusiastic yes.
“I was so surprised!” the One Tree Hill actress and fellow country singer told People Magazine. Gilbert proposed with a custom 5-carat, round-cut ring designed by Giador Fine Jewelry in Nashville. Says the bride to be, “I’m in love with it!”
The couple, who are both nominated for best new vocalist at this year’s ACM awards, spent Gilbert’s birthday at the historic Ryman Auditorium Theatre. It’s the site of the former Grand Ole Opry stage, and famous country couple Johnny Cash and June Carter met there. For Gilbert and Kramer, it became the site of one of the happiest moments of their lives.
In a statement to People Magazine the couple says, “We could not be happier! We are so excited to share this special time with our loved ones and cannot wait to start the rest of our lives together.”
This will be the first marriage for Gilbert. Kramer was previously married to actor Jonathan Schaech in 2010, but they split one month later.
