Brandon Roy retires from NBA

Basketball  -  Blazers' star point guard Brandon Roy has decided to retire from the NBA due to his ailing knees and will not play in the upcoming shortened 2011-2012 season.  Roy, when healthy, is one of the outstanding point guards in the league.

Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, Monta Ellis, Rajon Rondo and Brandon Roy and in a class all by themselves.  Roy typically contributes over 20 points per game to go along with 6 to 8 assists.  Roy earned Rookie of the Year honors in 2006 and is only 27 years old.

The Blazers spent their first pick on Greg Oden several years back and Oden has not played in a single regular season game.  I thought back then that the team should have drafted Kevin Durant (eventually taken at No. 2) out of Texas.

Now, Roy is retiring due to his bad knees.  The Blazers have slowly rebuilt their team, especially with the strong contribution of LaMarcus Aldridge at center.  However, they don't appear to be a playoff contender without Roy.
