Brandi Glanville put her foot in her mouth last night on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills when she called Joyce Giraud a "black person" after learning that she couldn't swim. Although Brandi claimed that she didn't mean to offend anyone, Joyce is part black, so she was very offended and taken aback.
As the episode aired, Brandi tweeted her apologies, and this morning, December 10, she took to her Bravo blog to further explain what happened.
"First and foremost, I really do want to sincerely apologize and say I am truly sorry for the insensitive joke I made about Joyce not getting in the water and to anyone of my friends or fans of the show I offended," Brandi wrote. "I generally tend to speak before thinking, which is something I wish I could change about myself. But it has been 41 years now and I don't really see that happening."
Although Brandi is apologizing, her use of the word "but" seems to hint that her comment should be excused -- which isn't a decision that she should make. Instead, she should simply explain herself and leave it up to those she's offended.
"The moment those words came out of my mouth I regretted them," Brandi continued. "[I] felt like I just handed Joyce/Jacqueline the gift that she had been waiting for to have another go at me and give herself the attention she clearly was craving."
