Brancott Estate, Flight Song Wines

New Zealand’s Brancott Estate was a pioneer in winemaking in Marlborough. Back in the 1970s they realized the cool climate could produce world class Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. Brancott Estate’s winemakers have consistently turned out high quality wines and have won numerous gold medals in international wine competitions.
Brancott has also been at the forefront of reducing their carbon footprint. They have re-introduced native plant life around the vineyard. They have also reduced water usage and chemical usage looking for more natural ways to take care of their vineyards. As far back as 2008 they have been implementing systems to cut water usage, complying with ISO 14001 International Environmental Standards. They have also implemented recycling practices. Reusing plastic containers used in the vineyards. Also using recycled cardboard to package it’s wine for distribution. They have even started to use lighter bottles to ship their wines in, which reduce shipping weights to lower fuel levels needed to transport their wines.
Brancott Estate’s latest developement is to produce full flavored wines with 20% lower calories. These wines are called Flight Song.
Brancott Estate, Flight Song Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, NZ 2013 is very light green verging on light yellow. The nose is filled with lemon and lime peel mixed with herbaciousness with the typical aroma of cat piss (not a bad thing) that most New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs possess. Tart citrus and tropical fruits dominate the palate including, lemon, lime, kiwi, pineapple and passion fruit. The finish has nice herbal notes and mouth cleansing acidic finish. This acidity will pair well with citrus marinated fish and chicken as well as vegetables fresh off the grill.
