Branch 27 kicks off monthly beer dinners

Chef John Manion, who has elevated menus at restaurants like Goose Island Brewery, brings his taste for brew-minded fare to recently opened Branch 27. February marks the kick off for monthly beer dinners, hosted on the last Wednesday of each month.

The West Town location, named for its former life as the 27th Ward library branch, serves up a four course dinner on February 24th, showcasing the Trappist brewery Chimay, from Belgium, against Fairbury, Illinois based Slagel Family Farm's pork. In keeping with its roots, courses are instead referred to as 'chapters' in what should be a page turning journey.


Diners begin with a charcuterie plate promptly at 7:30 p.m., followed by four courses incorporating everything from pasta topped with braised pork ragu to a wintry dish focused on porchetta, all paired with a different Chimay beer. Dessert, interestingly, doesn't stray far from the theme. A tart of bacon, walnut and chocolate is topped with maple gelato and served up with Chimay's Blue Jeroboam.

The dinner, with beer pairings, costs $60 per person. Reservations can be made at 312-850-2700.
