Everywhere I go, I see braids! This trend is back and more popular than ever -- and it's about time that I know the secret to it all! So, lucky for me I tracked down Loredana Farahani, a top stylist in Boston currently bringing her talents to Newbury's own Pini Swissa Salon. I don't want to boast, but she was recently recognized by Improper Bostonian for "Best Women's Haircut" of 2013.
So, lets just say she knows a thing or two...and I couldn't resist picking her brain!
Me: Tell me a little bit about the re-emerging trend of braids? They are everywhere! From celebs, runways, movies -- where is this trend stemming from?
LF: Braids have made a comeback like never before. They are being seen not only on runways and movies, but as a part of everyday life. Braids are a fun way to make any hair style interesting. From wearing hair down and throwing a braid in it to making a traditional bun, or up-do spiced up, braids are always an amazing option to keep things interesting.
Me: What notable celebrities are wearing the trend?
LF: From Lauren Conrad, Vanessa Hudgens,Nicole Ricci, Jessica Alba to Nicole Kiddman. This goes to show that a braid, when done properly, can work on anyone!
Me: So true! What styles of braids -- waterfall, etc. do you see people wearing?
LF: Waterfall braids have become quite popular as well as fishtail braids, crown braids, and a classic messy braid.
Me: I personally am obsessed with the messy braid and the fishtail too. Give me the secret! What are some easy braids that can be done at home?
LF: A braid that can easily be done at home is the classic messy braid, the bun braid, and the braided bang.
Me: Fabulous! What are some more complex braids that should be asked for in salon?
LF: Fishtail braids are always a big hit at the salon. Also an upside down french braid incorporated into a bun is always fun.
Me: How are you seeing these being worn - more casual or dressed up?
LF: Braids used to be an easy alternative to doing hair. When one was feeling lazy, or needed to do something quickly, the braid was the go to style. Now, braids are being incorporated from casual do's to fancy updo's. There is no wrong time to wear a braids. They can really make a statement to any look... I highly recommend them!!
