Bragging rights for Whitney Young Dolphins and Simeon Wolverines

On Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 8:00 p.m., the showdown began. Two competing teams dominate the basketball court for what spectators call 'bragging rights.' Whitney Young High School gets the first basket of the game - the almighty dolphins squeal with excitement! Back and forth, Young scores; Simeon High School scores. By half time, Young has 14 and Simeon has 28. The wolverines howl over the lead. Third quarter - Young comes out with force. The quarter ends with 32 to 32. Anxiety and anticipation fills the stadium. Simeon supporters say: "Oh No! They caught up with us." Whitney Young supporters say: "YES! We have a chance to win." 49.5 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Simeon has 42; and Young's SG/SF #10 hits a clutch 2 point basket, bringing Young from 39 to 41. Excitement, nervousness, and anticipation embraces the entire room. As the end approaches, Simeon's guard #1 races down the court and puts up a quick lay up, causing Simeon to lead by 3. The final score? - Simeon 44, Whitney Young 41.

There is a saying that you have to see the glass as half full instead of half empty. Both teams are victorious winners with student athletes who are not only athletically inclined, but striving for academic excellence and longevity. Both teams displayed maturity, diligence, sportsmanship, and a winning spirit. Of course, it's awesome to rank, score, and win titles; but the ultimate victory was... no incidents, harm, nor danger on or off the court. Players and spectators got another shot at LIFE and the opportunity to see what's next. Slam dunks don't get any better than that! Congratulations Whitney Young and Simeon! Both teams earned bragging rights; and both of you are winners!
