Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) confirms he's leaving ABC soap 'General Hospital'

UPDATE 12/12/13 8:22 p.m. PST:
"General Hospital" producer Ron Carlivati took to his Twitter account to also confirm the departure of both Bradford Anderson and Emily Wilson, also noting their last air dates, Tweeting "Wishing @BfordAnderson & @_emilywilson the best as they start their next chapters! Come say goodbye to Spinelli & Ellie Fri & Mon on #GH!"

A recent storyline on ABC soap "General Hospital" seemed to hint that actors Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) and Emily Wilson (Ellie) might be permanently leaving fictional Port Charles; however, on Thurs., Dec. 12, Anderson confirmed the departure on both his Facebook page and Twitter account, saying "thanks everyone for the well wishes! I'm excited for what's ahead but am so grateful for these amazing 7 yrs, and for all of you!" Wilson has yet to make an official statement, but she did Tweet a blurry photo of what appeared to be a script for the show "Castle," to which Anderson responded "hooooooray!!! Congrats friend!"

"General Hospital," ABC's only remaining soap, airs weekdays at 2pm on Riverside affiliate KABC channel 7.

Anderson was bumped from contract to recurring status by the soap back in May of 2013, but interestingly, rather than appearing less, "General Hospital" actually increased the actor's screen presence and gave him a major storyline with the bombshell secret that Spinelli had fathered Maxie's (Kirsten Storms) baby, unbeknownst to him. Maxie was supposedly a surrogate for parents Lulu and Dante Falconeri (Emma Rylan and Dominic Zamprogna) but lost the baby. After sleeping with Spinelli on New Year's Eve, she immediately became pregnant again with his child. The secret of the baby's true parentage, the big reveal and the battle for baby Connie's custody has been a front-burner story for most of 2013. In the end, Spinelli was awarded full custody of Connie for six months. A heartbroken Maxie was denied any visitation of the child.

In the past week, Ellie shared with Spinelli that she'd been offered a job in Portland, and Maxie surprised both by saying she thought the couple should make the move with the baby, hoping distance would help her deal with not being able to see Connie. That story arc raised eyebrows among viewers as to what leaving Port Charles really meant for actors Anderson and Wilson, and now it seems that concern was well founded.

Bradford Anderson initiated the role of computer geek Damian Spinelli in September of 2006. Spinelli was only meant to be played on a recurring basis, but his popularity with fans prompted GH to offer the actor a contract in May of 2007. Spinelli has been a character that's either loved or hated by most fans, the ire coming from what many found to be his irritating cyber-speak and his penchant for giving odd nicknames to his friends, such as "Stone Cold" or "The Blonde One." Since Ron Carlivati took over as head writer of the soap in Jan. of 2012, the character has gradually become far more refined and, as some would say, almost normal.

In 2010, Anderson joined fellow "General Hospital" cast members Brandon Barash (ex-Johnny Zacchara), Steve Burton (ex-Jason Morgan) and Scott Reeves (ex-Steve Webber) to create the band "Port Chuck," who cut an album and toured together. The band is currently in the midst of their farewell tour, not surprising given that, as of today, none of the band members are still on the canvas at "General Hospital."

As of now, no last air date has been announced for Anderson or Wilson.
