The Pittsburgh Pirates have announced their minor league managerial and coaching assignments for the 2013 season. Frank Kremblas will manage the Marauders in the team’s fourth season in Bradenton. Kremblas is the third manager in the four-year history of the Marauders, succeeding Carlos Garcia, who managed the team in 2011 and 2012 and has moved up to helm the double-A Altoona Curve in 2013. The announcement was made by Larry Broadway, Pirates Director of Minor League Operations.
In 2012, Kremblas held the position of Special Assistant to Minor League Operations for the Pirates. His previous managerial experience includes the Pirates triple-A affiliate in Indianapolis in 2009 and 2010, as well as stints in the Expos and Brewers organizations. He currently manages the Leones del Caracas team in the Venezuelan Winter League.
The Marauders will also have new faces at pitching coach and hitting coach in 2013. Justin Meccage will direct the team’s pitching staff, while Edgar Varela will work with the team’s hitters. Meccage spent his first two years as a professional coach as the pitching coach for the State College Spikes in 2011 and 2012. Varela is beginning his sixth season with the Pirates. He was the hitting coach for low-A West Virginia in 2012.
Dru Scott returns for a second season as athletic trainer for the Marauders, his fifth overall in the Pirates organization.
The Bradenton Marauders play their first home game of the 2013 season on Friday, April 5 at McKechnie Field.
