Brad Pitt received a love gift in the shape of a heart from Angelina Jolie for his fiftieth birthday on December 18, 2013. She bought him his own private island about 50 miles north of New York City or 15 minutes from Manhattan by helicopter.
It was the perfect gift for a reason other than its heart shape. The two homes on the island were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Brad's favorite architect. With lots of glass overlooking the water and natural elements like stone and wood incorporated into the buildings, they are typical Frank Lloyd Wright buildings.
The smaller 1,200-square-foot-cottage was built in 1950. The 5,000-square-foot main residence was built in 2008 from one of Wright's final plans. It has 1,500 square feet of skylights and lots of stone, cement and mahogany. They are just right for a family retreat or a romantic holiday for two.
There are 11 acres on Petra Island which is located in Lake Mahopac. It has its own helicopter landing pad or can be reached by boat from the mainland. According to the attached video, Brad's birthday present only cost $12 million.
