Brad Pitt on marriage to Jennifer Aniston: 'I wasn't living an interesting life'

When Brad Pitt was asked why he chose to adopt foreign-born children over American children in a recent issue of Parade, the 47-year-old actor responded, “…I just don’t see America as separate from Vietnam or Ethiopia…This mentality of ‘Our team’s better than yours’—it’s a high school idea.” Although Pitt reproves some U.S. mentalities as comparative to attitudes found in high school, some may argue that he displayed some sophomoric behavior of his own by riffing on his ex, Jennifer Aniston, in a following question without even being asked about his famous former wife.

When Parade’s Dotson Rader inquired about which event prompted Pitt to transform into a family man and philanthropist, Pitt used words such as “sick” and “pathetic” to describe his life before Angelina Jolie and then intimated that some blame could be placed on his marriage to Aniston.

“I started to get sick of myself sitting on a couch, holding a joint, hiding out. It started feeling pathetic,” lamented Pitt. “It became very clear to me that I…wasn’t living an interesting life…I think that my marriage [to actress Jennifer Aniston] had something to do with it.”

Brad Pitt may have not meant to come across as snide toward his ex, but being that divulging in an interview is much different than a revelation to a friend at coffee (i.e., it goes without saying that wind of Pitt’s remarks will get back to Aniston) it may perplex readers as to why the actor would make mention of his ex in a disparaging way, especially considering the two have been divorced for quite a few years now and Aniston has kept relatively mum about the breakup.

Meanwhile, life in Jennifer Aniston’s world seems anything but mundane as she has starred in a slew of movies this past year, has been happily dating Justin Theroux and over the summer was honored at the hand and footprint ceremony outside Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

Ex etiquette

According to Nora Mclerny, “The fact is, the details surrounding the demise of a relationship are really nobody’s business, and the more you talk about them, the more chances you have to look like a total jerk and possibly hurt the other person.”

Both dating relationships and marriages have been vulnerable to breakups. A certain mourning period can be associated with both, but proper etiquette would demand one to keep the details of a breakup private as to avoid causing pain to either person, particularly the one jilted in the first place.
