Surprising news for celebrity followers in Fresno and all over the world today as A-list superstars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie finally tied the knot on Saturday, August 23, 2014, in Chateau Miraval, France.
As reported by a spokesperson for the couple and as reported by such sources as StyleList.com and AOL.com, Pitt and Jolie were wed in a small chapel in a private ceremony attended by family and friends at Provence's Chateau Miraval. The Hollywood power couple obtained their marriage license from a California judge in advance of the nondenominational civil ceremony; the same judge also conducted the ceremony in France.
The question of whether the couple would settle down has been on Hollywood's radar for years. Pitt once said that he didn't want to marry until gay marriage was legal, but in recent years, both said they did intend intended to wed. They had been engaged since early 2012 after dating and raising a family for seven years.
A Pitt told The Associated Press in a November 2012 interview, "It's an exciting prospect, even though for us, we've gone further than that. But to concretize it in that way, it actually means more to me than I thought it would. It means a lot to our kids."
Pitt and Jolie have six children together, three of whom they adopted: 13-year-old Maddox, from Cambodia; 10-year-old Pax, from Vietnam; and 9-year-old Zahara, from Ethiopia. Their three biological children are 8-year-old Shiloh, and 6-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. According to their spokesperson, all the children took part in the ceremony, with Jolie walking the aisle with her eldest sons Maddox and Pax, while Zahara and Vivienne threw flower petals, and Shiloh and Knox served as ring bearers.
It should also be noted that this is not the first marriage experience for either star. Pitt's was previously married to Jennifer Aniston in 2000, until their divorce in 2005. Meanwhile, Jolie was married to British actor Jonny Lee Miller for three years in the late `90s and to Billy Bob Thornton for three years before divorcing in 2003.
In regards to their career lives, both newlyweds are prepping new films. Jolie's second directorial effort, the World War II odyssey Unbroken, will be released this December, while Pitt will star in the upcoming World War II drama Fury, slated for release on October 17.
This examiner would like extend my congratulations to the happy couple, their children, family and friends, and wich them all the best.
