Dancing with the Stars' Karina Smirnoff is engaged to Brad Penny, a baseball player for the St. Louis Cardinals. Smirnoff revealed to People magazine that the couple have been engaged since October 4th.
"We kept it quiet because my family is in New York and Brad's family is in Oklahoma so we kind of wanted them to come out and celebrate and be a family first before we let the cat out of the bag," she said.
Smirnoff told People that Penny and her manager lured her to a restaurant after Dancing with the Stars one night by telling her that the president of Twitter wanted to meet her.
"We went to this restaurant and [my manager] got on her phone and said 'this guy is killing me,' and got up and walked away, Then Brad walked in and it still didn't register. He got down on one knee and he opened the box and I said, 'Thank you'. I honestly didn't expect it," she said.
Smirnoff was previously engaged to fellow DWTS dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who called off their engagement in October 2009. She began dating Smirnoff shortly afterwards.
According to MSNBC, Penny made $7.5 million with the Cardinals last year and will be a free agent this winter.
Smirnoff was paired with Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino from MTV reality show, Jersey Shore. The pair were eliminated early in the season.
Dancing with the Stars airs Monday and Tuesday nights on ABC (KATV Ch. 7 in Little Rock).
