Each week, CMT's Country Countdown USA--a nationally syndicated radio show hosted by Lon Helton and recorded on Nashville's Music Row--was co-hosted and recorded on September 24,2011 by Country superstars Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood.
The radio show, which counts down the Top 30 songs in Country music for a given week, began with Helton at its helm back in 1992. In 20 years, according to Helton himself, "there has never been two superstars on the show" at one time.
During the show, which aired this morning, September 25, 2011, Underwood dished about her strategy going into her fourth studio album:
"I'm keeping everybody in the dark. It's like 'what's she gonna do? I don't know..what's it gonna be?'"
Paisley interjected:
"Do you know? Do you have plans?"
Laughing, Underwood comes back with:
"I know enough. I have plans."
In the past, Underwood has often remained quite tight-lipped about upcoming music, and she seems to be keeping any leaks under lock and key. This past summer, she's been busy performing a few shows, writing, recording, and taking it easy. "That's not a bad CMA promo idea, what you've been up to all summer," Paisley teases. Underwood replies, "Okay..." She's a woman of few words these days.
Underwood's year, despite not having any new solo music out, has been jam packed with special performances and duets, one of which was her show-stopping moment on the Academy of Country Music Awards. Underwood dishes about her duet on the awards show with Steven Tyler.
"I felt like I brought like the really hot guy that everybody wanted to bring to prom. I brougth him to prom," Underwood confesses. She goes on to detail that he sent her a giant bouquet of flowers and a poem. When prompted about the poem, she says,"I can't repeat all of it cause there were some explicit words."
On her duet with Tony Bennett, "It Had to Be You," she says, "it made my heart smile." Underwood had never recorded a song without headphones, as the recording took place in a room with the band. Needless to say, it was a learning experience for the platinum-selling artist. When asked about the jazz legend, Underwood simply said, "He is just a nice man."
Recently, Underwood blazed the stage at the Capital City Hoedown, and during the festival Underwood dueted with another Country superstar, Miranda Lambert. Unsure of how to approach the performance, Mike Fisher, Underwood's hockey-playing husband, suggested doing a mash-up of "Gun Powder and Lead" and "Before He Cheats," and that is exactly what the two blonde belters did!
