The first full-length official trailer for the upcoming concert film One Direction: Where We Are – The Concert Film was released today, courtesy of its distributor, Arts Alliance. If you sit really quietly and concentrate, you can actually hear the dulled collective of fangirls losing their minds. The trailer commands fans to get hyped and spread the word using the Twitter hashtag #1DWWAFilm, so by all means, get excited.
This is the second time that the boyband has visited the cinema, as last year brought us the official documentary One Direction: This Is Us, directed by none other than Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me). After the success of that film, why not continue to cash in while the band still has a name for itself? Tween girls are a market ripe for poaching, and successive docs about Justin Bieber and his ilk have proven that the documentary/concert film can sometimes be extremely lucrative.
Named after the band’s most recent tour, Where We Are was shot in San Siro stadium in Milan. Mainly showing concert footage, the film features only 15 minutes (out of a 90-minute runtime) of never-before-seen footage of the band offstage and in interviews.
One Direction: Where We Are – The Concert Film will open for a limited release only on October 11 and 12. To find out where the film will be playing near you, visit the film’s official website. A DVD of the film will be released on December 1. It is available now for pre-order. The band members are Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson.
