BP announced Saturday that in the last seven weeks they have paid out $104 million to Gulf Coast residents who filed oil spill related claims, and said that they have sent out over 31,000 checks.

Rep. Edward Markey, D-Massachusetts released a document Sunday that gave BP’s worst case scenario of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico; the report stated that an estimated 100,000 barrels (or 4.2 million gallons) could leak into the ocean per day. The report was created after the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded and was submitted in May.

BP testified in May that the worst case was 60,000 barrels (or 2.5 million gallons) per day. And BP claimed early on that the oil well was leaking about 1,000 barrels a day, even though experts claimed it was closer to 5,000 barrels per day; a number that BP later admitted was leaking into the ocean.

The document uses a 60,000 barrel estimate, but then states that if the: "blowout preventer and wellhead are removed and if we have incorrectly modeled the restrictions, the rate could be as high as 100,000 barrels a day."

Rep. Edward Markey, D-Massachusetts, and the chairman of the Energy and Environment Subcommittee in the House Energy and Commerce Committee said that the document "raises very troubling questions about what BP knew and when they knew it."

"It is clear that, from the beginning, BP has not been straightforward with the government or the American people about the true size of this spill," said Markey.

"Considering what is now known about BP's problems with this well prior to the Deepwater Horizon explosion, including cementing issues, leaks in the blowout preventer and gas kicks, BP should have been more honest about the dangerous condition of the well bore," Markey said.

BP shareholder class action lawsuit was filed last week in the Eastern District of Louisiana and the organizers of the suit hope to bring angry people all over the world together. The case alleges that BP was not conducting a safe operation in oil drilling, but misled the public by acting as though they were. For more information on that story, click here.

Actor Kevin Costner has invested about $26 million into his Ocean Therapy Solutions machine, and six of the machines were sent to the Gulf for testing. BP has ordered 32 more machines that recycle water to separate the oil. For more information on this story, click here.

Recently, a new video of the gushing oil had many of the investigative teams calling BP untrustworthy because more oil was leaking from the well then they originally claimed. For more on that story, click here.
