Thursday morning, BP released new video of the underwater oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico. The video is from the larger of the two leaks on the riser of the Deepwater Horizon well and shows a mixture of oil and gas stream. Thursday, ABC News explained that although it looks as though it might be easily capped, the pressure that would build up because of that cap would most likely cause a leak in another area.
Wednesday, during the congressional hearings it was revealed that BP knew of the problems on the oil rig several hours before the explosion when a key pressure test failed, according to Rep. Henry Waxman D-California. Waxman said that BP gave the information to the Energy and Commerce subcommittee privately.
“The test indicated pressure was building up in the well, which could indicate oil or gas was seeping in and could lead to an explosion,” said Waxman.
"Yet it appears the companies did not suspend operations, and now 11 workers are dead and the Gulf faces an environmental catastrophe," he said.

Lamar McKay, President and Chairman of BP American, Steven Newman, President and Chief Executive Officer Transocean Limited and Tim Probert, President of Global Business Lines and Chief Health, Safety and Environmental Officer of Halliburton began testimony Monday before the US Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.
Monday afternoon, senators Lisa Murkowski (R) of Alaska and Robert Menendez (D) of New Jersey asked questions of the three executives and began to get frustrated.
"There's this transference of liability, or finger pointing," Senator Murkowski said. "There's going to be plenty of time to figure out who is to blame, who is at fault. You suggested, Mr. McKay, that as owner operator of the Deep Horizon rig that Transocean, you're transferring [blame]. Mr. Newman, you're saying it's not the blowout preventer at all.... Then Mr. Probert takes it back around to the well owner here at BP.”
“I would suggest to all three of you that we are all in this together, because this incident will have impact on development of energy policy for this country…. If we can't continue to operate and convince people we can perform safely ... then not only will BP not be out there, but the Transoceans won't be there to drill the rigs and Haliburtons won't be there to provide the cementing."

People around the country are angry over the oil leak and the damage it has already done to the environment, and the fact that 11 people have been reported dead as a result of the oil rig explosion. The three companies that are mainly responsible for the oil spill are blaming each other and no one is accepting their role in the oil rig explosion. In Utah, the senators are split on their opinion on if off shore oil drilling should be haulted while this investigation is underway.
