BP oil spill update: Oil has stopped flowing, Vote do you think BP is doing a good job?

Eighty-seven days later, oil has stopped flowing into the Gulf of Mexico, but do you think BP is doing a good job? The next stage in the process that will hopefully contain the oil spill until the permanent relief wells are completed is underway: testing the cap. BP also made it clear that though it appears the oil has stopped flowing, there is no indication that it has permanently stopped.

BP stated today when announcing the beginning of the well integrity test, “The sealing cap system never before has been deployed at these depths or under these conditions, and its efficiency and ability to contain the oil and gas cannot be assured.

During the well integrity test, operations on the first relief well have been temporarily stopped while the well was at 17,840 ft as a precaution. Operations on the second relief well have been temporarily suspended at 15,874 feet to ensure that there is no interference with the first relief well. The relief wells remain the sole means to permanently seal and isolate the well.”

Admiral Thad Allen, National Incident Commander released a statement after the well stopped gushing oil at approximately 2:25 p.m. today. It reads as follows.

"We're encouraged by this development, but this isn't over. Over the next several hours we will continue to collect data and work with the federal science team to analyze this information and perform additional seismic mapping runs in the hopes of gaining a better understanding on the condition of the well bore and options for temporary shut in of the well during a hurricane.

It remains likely that we will return to the containment process using this new stacking cap connected to the risers to attempt to collect up to 80,000 barrels of oil per day until the relief well is completed."

What do you think? Are you encouraged by the progress made or do you think BP took too long to get to this point. Is BP doing a good job at oil spill response and recovery?

I still say a dozen red-necks would have plugged it inside of a week for 3 kegs and a barbeque. Someone didn't want to stop the leak or it would have been stopped sooner.

Trying? 5,000+ barrels of oil have spilled into the gulf PER DAY over several months and there trying? Give me a break. They only now think they have it all under control, the fact of the matter is if someone gave a S**T we wouldn't be in this predicament to begin with.

Theres STILL millions of gallons of oil out there. Alot is deep under the water. Dispirsents have just stirred it up. Being the worst oil disaster in the history means that its going to be around for a very long time. Alaska has trouble from Exxon 10 yrs. later. Oil is coming up under the beaches in the sand. Is the American public so naive in other parts of the country that they can be led to believe it just disappeared? Removing the boons now and then having a big storm would have the oil pushed further inland. September is a prime month for hurrcaines. Already residents have experience oil covered lawns after a rainstorm. It was on their cars, sidewalks, etc.
