Minnesota’s Travis Boyd and Kyle Rau earned the Big Ten’s First and Second Star of the Week awards according to a release from the conference office today.
Boyd’s first ever career honor comes his way after leading all Big Ten skaters in points with four (two goals, two assists). Three of those points came in Minnesota’s 6-2 victory over RPI to finish third in the Mariucci Classic last weekend.
Rau had three points last weekend (two goals, one assist) which included his 100th collegiate point in Friday’s game against Colgate. Rau currently has 102 points in 98 career games, which averages at 1.04 points per game. Minnesota is 6-0-0 all time when Rau scores more than one goal and 5-8-4 in seventeen games where he tallies a point.
Minnesota has earned honors in each of the first nine weeks of Big Ten play this season, which is Minnesota’s first in the Big Ten. Minnesota takes on Penn State for the first time ever in a Sunday-Monday series this weekend from University Park, PA at the Pegula Ice Arena. Sunday’s game will not air on TV while Monday’s contest will air on BTN and BTN2Go.com.
