Monday night the popular Boycott BP Facebook page was shut down and restored Tuesday; fans around the world wondered what happened and thought that BP had something to do with it. The Boycott BP Facebook page has almost 750,000 fans and its purpose is to get people to stop buying products from BP.  If you are at all angry at BP...it's a great page to visit.

The message on the Boycott BP page Wednesday morning is….We are back!  Fans of the Facebook page have left hundreds of comments since the page was restored.

Facebook released a statement Tuesday stating that it was a technical error and glitch and that the page has been restored. They made it clear that BP had nothing to do with the temporary closure of the page.

One political group that supports the Boycott BP movement, Public Citizen had this to say about the Boycott BP Facebook shut-down (before it was put back up):

"Facebook and other social websites have become the public squares of the Internet - places where citizens can congregate as a community to share their opinions and voice their grievances," said Greg Beck, the group's attorney.

"Facebook’s ownership of this democratic forum carries great responsibility. At the very least, Facebook should provide warning and a reasoned explanation before destroying a large and active community."

Beck went on to suggest that the Boycott BP was removed because it may have caused confusion:

"Nobody could be confused into believing that a page named “Boycott BP” is run by BP itself. People have a right to criticize a company by name, and BP has no right to stop it," he said.

BP received numerous complaints about the closure of the Facebook page and released their own statement stating simply that they had nothing to do with it.

Thursday, a New Orleans judge is expected to rule if the government ban on deepwater drilling will continue in the Gulf of Mexico. Obama’s administration asked Judge Martin Feldman to delay his decision on lifting the ban until an appeals court can get to the case later this summer. The judge denied that request. For more on that story, click here.

A lawsuit was filed from a group of companies that state the government has no evidence that the existing operations pose a threat to the Gulf of Mexico, and asked that the ban be removed. The companies provide boats and equipment to the drilling industry. For more on that story, click here.

You could have mentioned the original article that first broke this story that is one of the most highest viewed on iReport.

After all, it WASN'T Public Citizen who first reported it, it was an actual member of "Boycott BP".

I hate what has happened with BP and I want them to pay out the ass forever, but why can't people see that the only way to hurt BP is to keep them in business so they can pay the money they owe so we need to make sure they do not go bankrupt and boycotting them is the worst thing we can do. I am sure that it seems logical but think about it before you go to such an extreme as that. BP, Exxon, Chevron etc all put the same oil the same pot so there is no such thing as BP Oil. All boycotting them is doing is hurting the independent stations unfortunate enough to have BP on their sign. Wake up people and think about what you are doing, becasue if you allow this devilsh company to go broke, the ones in charge are not going to lose a dime becasue they have already moved their fortunes around and they cannot be hurt and they will just get their life back and retire.. WE ARE the only ones that can lose by making them go broke so the cannot pay the bills for the damage they have done.... My 2
