San Diego police responded to what they believed was an attempted suicide by a twelve-year old Boy Scout attending summer camp. The campsite was at the Fiesta Island Youth Camp and Youth Aquatic Camp in Mission Bay.

The young lad was accompanied by his father as well as twenty other boys from their troop. The purpose of their trip was to earn merit badges that were centered on water activities that were planned for the boys. According to an updated news report yesterday from NBC San Diego the boys were supposed to camp for the entire week together.

No one knows where the gun came from or where the child’s father or other counselors were at the time of the shooting. The boy who hasn’t been identified was shot in his torso and died from the gunshot wound at the camp. Emergency personnel tried to revive the child but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Investigators seem to think the child committed suicide but are rethinking their first impression as to where the gunshot wounded the child. There weren’t any witnesses to the shooting but it seems from those who heard the noise from the gun said that they heard more than one shot fired and the boy may have been shot more than once. No arrests have been made and the investigation is still ongoing.

No definite determination will be made at the present time about how the events causing the boy’s death until after an autopsy is performed. Then and only then will an official cause of death be stated once the trajectory of the bullet or bullets can be identified.

Police are asking anyone who may have any information regarding the shooting to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at (888) 580-8477 or the police in Mission Bay.

Prayers are sent to the family of this young lad with hopes they can find the truth about what happened and get the support they need to move forward!
