Boy, 5, in critical condition after being mauled by pitbull in Macon

A 5-year-old boy was in critical condition Friday after being attacked by a pitbull at a Macon home.

At 4:26 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to a report of a dog attack at a home in the 1100 block of Ousley Place, according to Macon police.

They were told a young child had been attacked by a pit bull at the home, police spokeswoman Ms. Jami Gaudet said.

“The five year-old child sustained injuries to his scalp, as well as bites on his arm, head, face and legs,” Ms. Gaudet said. “He was transported to the hospital via ambulance where he remains in critical condition from the attack.”

So far, police have declined to release any details on the circumstances of the attack. It was also unclear if the dog belonged to the boy’s family and what led to the attack.

The dog was taken to a local veterinary clinic where it was euthanized, Ms. Gaudet said.
