Logan Shepard was only four and innocently enjoying a bowl of ice cream when his uncle's two pit bull dogs mauled him to death in what appeared to be only seconds. The little boy had walked over to his aunt and uncle's house with his mother at about 10:30 p.m. on Saturday night and he was left alone in the living room eating his ice cream while the adults talked in another room, according to The Spread It on July 21.

The boy's mother, Stephanie Grouix, and her sister, Delores Frederick, and her sister's husband, Billy Frederick, were in another room talking with the Frederick's teen daughter when screams rang out from the front yard. The family ran to little Logan, who had wandered into the front yard with his bowl of ice cream and the family's two pit bulls mauled him to death, reports Fox News Tampa Bay.

It took only seconds for the family to get to Logan, but by then the screams had stopped and the two dogs were standing over the four-year-old's lifeless and bloody body. The uncle got the two dogs off of Logan, but it was too late to save him.

Two police officers were in the middle of a traffic stop out in front of the home in Riverview, Florida and they ran to the sounds of the screams, but there wasn't anything they could do, Logan was gone.

The uncle said that he put the dogs in their crates, which were in the front yard, before Logan and his mother arrived at the house. He has no idea how the dogs got out of those crates. Deputies also reported that it is not known how the pit bulls got out, but an investigation into this death may shed some more light on their escape from the crates.

The paramedics arrived, but there was nothing they could do to save the child, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Neighbors who knew the family were shocked and they all expressed how sad they are for the family.

Police said they have never gotten an animal report from this address and have they never responded to a dog complaint at the Frederick's home. The dogs were euthanized on Sunday afternoon and police report that no charges have been filed in this tragic death.
