A 3-year-old boy was killed Friday afternoon after he was struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of his family’s southwest Atlanta restaurant.
The boy, who has been identified as Dauda Mangassouba, died at Grady Memorial Hospital a short time later, according to Atlanta police.
Dauda was hit around 5:45 p.m. in a shopping center parking lot at 3131 Campbellton Road, Atlanta police said.
“The driver of a small SUV was backing out of a parking space and struck the 3-year-old child,” police spokesman Officer John Chafee said. “It appears that the driver did not see the child behind the vehicle and at this time no charges have been filed.”
A small riding toy was left under the small SUV that investigators said hit the child, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The driver, who has not been identified, remained at the scene, police said.
The wreck remains under investigation, Officer Chafee said
